Thanks for taking the time to write this. I really enjoyed reading it (I’ve now read it twice) and it’s so well written with lots to think about. I hope the new, younger obas (eg the Alaafin and the Ooni) can reflect on the Awujale’s legacy and be inspired to transcend the pettiness that so often rears its head in their courts.

Thank you so much for this excellent piece, FF.

I didn't know so much about him beyond being the longest reigning monarch in Nigeria.

I really hope the next Awujale will exceed his achievements both in legacy and also honest service.

There is a time to be born and a time to die.

Thank you for this wonderful piece, I would have thought the regnal title was Ọ̀gbágbá Agbọ́tẹ̀wọlẹ̀ II, good service to the language with essential diacritical marks.

My dad did some research on the history of Ìjẹ̀ṣà-Ìjẹ̀bú which has the ancient name of Òdo Àyanyẹlú, it was fascinating to read the names of the age grade systems that were documented from around the mid-19th century to just around Nigeria's independence.

Indeed, he does stand apart, history will serve him well.

Thank you for this. I read it with a mix of joy and sorrow. I had to read the penultimate paragraph twice to grasp the enormity of what was lost and how deeply the stool has been degraded.

Thank you for sharing this Feyi. Very enlightening.

While I really want to hope, I doubt that the forces that be will install a king that will continue this legacy.

That will be a real test of how far things have gone past redemption or maybe there is still some hope.

Thank you, Feyi, for a very informative and educative piece, as always.

The Nigeria of today, may look like a mess, from the standpoint of governance.

That doesn't mean, Nigeria, does not possess either now or in time past, men and women of substances, that can propel her to her expected heights.

And it will still happen. The emergence of Nations takes yrs, however I do have confidence, that when good men/women join hands together, we shall all put up the building blocks, which will eventually, become a formidable structure, to hold, the nation, we call Nigeria.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria 🇳🇬.
