The thing with this country is you have to enjoy whatever subsidy that is currently in the works(ps: the shoddiness of the supposed petrol subsidy removal), because if removed the guarantee that it will be used to equip the hospitals and ensure good pay & benefits to the Drs is not sure. Then it ends up being a lose-lose situation.
Even now, the ones that are still in the country are still being owed or not paid well, employment dynamics in FG owned institutions not transparent so how do you argue for the removal in good faith
In theory that would be the logical thing but the exiting doctors can credibly claim not to have any more so the option would be to somehow connect to their income wherever they go and get them to pay from there. That is easier said than done
Great post. 'Stolen' directly from my drafts, graphs and all! I have been meaning to complete my own article on the topic and propose potential solutions that specifically target the exodus. All variations of the solutions I'd proffer are highly emotive, I've been called all sorts of names when I've tested a few of them so unlikely to click publish on my article any time soon. It's a massive problem that we don't seem to be getting out of any time soon. Thanks for writing about it.
‘I will stop the mass exodus of our doctors abroad’
…Coming to a manifesto in 2026/7
Ha!

Haha....this shouldn't be funny 😁
Why can't the governemnt charge the leaving doctors the costs of the subsidies?
