The story here (for me) has been the rapid deterioration in Burkina Faso over the last 5–6 years:
Last year the conflict claimed more than 4,200 lives in Burkina. In just the first three and a half months of this year it has taken about 3,000 more
The government now controls less than half of the country and there are around 2 million Burkinabes internally displaced in the country. 200 schools are closing every month.
All of this is bad enough but it is the speed with which things have gotten bad in the country that is dizzying.
